Killing Reagan

Killing Reagan was created to accompany National Geographic’s global television movie event, Killing Reagan, which explored the assassination attempt of President Ronald Reagan outside the Hilton Hotel in DC in 1981. Users could point their iPhone cameras at a dollar bill to launch the interactive experience and watch the events unfold in 3D.

UX Lead

I positioned the app as an investigative look into the assassination attempt and storyboarded the scenes. I designed the overall user experience and defined what content should be part of the 2D UI and what could be shown in 3D.

As an earlier form of augmented reality, the app relied on a visual marker to launch the AR content (any one dollar bill), and users were not as familiar with engaging with AR. I created an interactive introduction to onboard users, teach them to physically move closer/farther away from the dollar, and showed them when to tap certain 3D elements.
